Firm-Fill 4010 is a cementitious
underlayment from Hacker Industries, Inc., designed for thin capping
concrete in new construction or over damaged concrete on renovation
projects.
With compressive strengths from 3000 to
5500 psi (approx. 20.7 to 37.9 MPa), Firm-Fill 4010 will provide
concrete floors with new life and exceptional surface hardness.

PART I GENERAL
1.1 Scope - Specify to meet project
requirements
A. Work included:
- Firm-Fill 4010
- Hacker Floor Sealer & Primer
1.2 Qualifications
A. Firm-Fill 4010 shall be
installed by Licensed Applicators of Hacker Industries Inc., using
approved mixing and pumping equipment.
B. Firm-Fill 4010 shall be delivered in original, unopened
bags and protected from exposure to the elements after delivery.
C. Install before or after drywall.
D. Before, during and after installation of Firm-Fill 4010,
the building interior must be ventilated and heated to a minimum
of 50 F (approx. 10 C).
E. Compressive strengths can be specified from 3000 psi to
5500 psi (approx. 20.7 to 37.9 MPa)
F. All material specified herein shall be approved by
Hacker Industries, Inc.
PART II PRODUCTS
2.1 Materials
A. Firm-Fill 4010 as
manufactured by Hacker Industries, Inc., Newport Beach, CA
B. Hacker Floor Primer and Sealer
C. Sand: Silica Sand Aggregate and/or Washed Plaster Sand
(ASTM E-11)
D. Mix water: Portable and free from impurities.
PART III EXECUTION
3.1 Condition of subfloor
A. General Contractor shall
provide a structurally sound subfloor, broom clean, and free from
oil, grease or other contaminants. Concrete must be 28 days or
older.
B. Before installation, General Contractor shall inspect
and approve the condition of the subfloor.
3.2 Preparation of Subfloor
A. Priming: Prime concrete
subfloors using Hacker Floor Primer and/or Sealer.
B. Prepare subfloor meeting requirements of Hacker
Renovation Specifications.
3.3 Mixing
Instructions
A. 5 to 6 gallons (approx.
19.0 to 22.7 liters) of water and sand as specified per 80 pound
(approx. 36.3 kg) bag of Firm-Fill 4010. Do not over water. Water
amount will change with wetness of sand.
B. Firm-Fill 4010 mix proportions and methods shall be in
strict accordance with Hacker recommendations. Firm-Fill 4010 is
available in two mix designs:
- 3000 - 3700 psi (approx. 20.7 to
25.5 MPa) - 1.8 cubic feet (approx. .051 cu.m) of sand per 80
lb. (approx. 36.3 kg) bag of Firm-Fill 4010.
- 3700 - 5500 psi (approx. 25.5 to
37.9 MPa) - 1.4 cu ft. - 1.0 cu ft., (approx. .040 -.028 cu.m)
of sand per 80 lb. (approx. 36.3kg) bag of Firm-Fill 4010.
3.4 Underlayment Applications
A. The minimum thickness of
Firm-Fill 4010 varies with the type of concrete floor system.
Firm-Fill 4010 can be feather edged over all concrete substrates.
B. Install Firm-Fill 4010 at specified minimum thickness
scrapping to a smooth surface. Place as continuously as possible
until installation is complete so that no Firm-Fill 4010 is placed
against Firm-Fill 4010 that has obtained its initial set, except
at authorized joints.
C. Protection: After installation, temporary wood planking
should be placed wherever the underlayment will be subject to
heavy wheeled or concen- trated loads.
D. Drying: Prior to the installation of finished floor
goods, the Firm-Fill 4010 must be free from any moisture. The
General Contractor shall provide continuous ventilation and
adequate heat to rapidly remove moisture from the area until the
underlayment is dry. Consult flooring contractor for recommended
procedures to test for dryness.
E. Firm-Fill 4010 is suitable for interior applications
only and must be covered by a finished floor material.
3.5 Field Quality Control
A. Sump Test: Firm-Fill 4010
shall be tested for slump as it is being installed using a 2"
by 4" (approx. 51 mm by 102mm) cylinder. The patty size
should be 7" (approx. 178mm) plus or minus 1/2 (approx. 13mm)
in diameter.
B. Field Samples: Testing of molded cube samples shall be
in accordance with ASTM: C472 using split brass molds. Prior to
independent sampling. Contact Hacker Industries, Inc., to insure
proper ASTM methods are followed. Test results shall be available
from the applicator on request.
